Radiofrequency Ablation in New Zealand
Larger varicose veins often develop when a vein beneath the skin is no longer moving blood efficiently back towards the heart. Radiofrequency ablation is a minimally invasive procedure that closes this faulty vein from within, allowing blood to redirect through healthier vessels nearby. Dr Maged Aziz offers these procedures in New Zealand following a consultation and ultrasound scan to determine which option may be appropriate for your veins.

What Happens During the Procedure?
The area around the vein is numbed with local anaesthetic before the catheter is inserted. Ultrasound is used throughout the procedure to guide its placement and monitor the vein. The appointment is usually completed as a day procedure, so an overnight hospital stay is not generally required. The time involved will depend on the number and extent of the veins being addressed. You may be asked to wear compression stockings afterwards. Walking is usually encouraged, although strenuous exercise and heavy lifting may need to be avoided for a short period. Dr Aziz will provide instructions based on your procedure and individual circumstances.
Choosing Care Based on Your Ultrasound
Not every varicose vein requires thermal ablation. Dr Aziz personally performs and reviews your ultrasound scan before discussing the available options. Depending on the findings, another approach such as sclerotherapy, VenaSeal or surgery may be more appropriate. This allows the recommendation to be based on how your veins are functioning rather than appearance alone.
